Sugar 'N Spice Nuts

Yield: 12 servings (Serving size: Approx 1/4 cup) | 5 points per serving

My rating:

These are delicious, and perfect for when you have guests over. They also make cute holiday gifts if you put them in decorated canning jars. They are a little high in points, but there's not much you can do because all the calories and fat are in the nuts themselves. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups almonds, walnuts, pecans, or a mix
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 Tb orange juice
  • 2/3 cup Splenda granular *
  • 1 Tb grated orange zest/rind
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground allspice
  • ¼ tsp salt

*Using real sugar instead of Splenda increases each serving by 1 point.

Directions:

Heat oven to 275ºF. Place nuts in a large bowl and set aside. In a small bowl, beat egg white and orange juice until frothy. Add sugar, orange zest, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and salt; mix well. Pour over nuts, stirring to coat well.

On a greased cake pan or cookie sheet, spread nuts so they do not touch. Bake about 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes, until light brown and crisp. Cool. Store in an airtight container in a cool place up to one month.

Yields: 12 servings (approx 1/4 cup per serving)
