Our Trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Wednesday, April 16 - Sunday, April 20, 2008

You can imagine how excited I was to find out that Jay won us a 4-day all-expenses-paid trip to the beautiful Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico through his company!!

We had an incredible time!! I would say that 75% of our trip involved laying on beach chairs, reading, drinking frozen drinks, and swimming! :-)

As for the other 25%...

Wednesday we arrived at the Sheraton and got all checked into our (gorgeous!) room around 4:00 pm. We decided to take a walk on the beach, only to discover the absolutly monsterous waves and we got our clothes soaked. We quickly learned that they don't advise swimming in the ocean at this resort, as the waves are huge!!! The resort was gorgeous - beautiful trees, pools, rooms... you really could not ask for more. Wednesday night Jay's company invited us to a cocktail party reception which was fun. About 200 people from Jay's company were on the trip; we filled up about 66% of the resort!

Thursday we slept in, ordered breakfast in our room, relaxed, read, drank, ate lunch, lounged, drank more, swam, walked on the beach, had sushi for dinner... it was a great day!!!

Friday morning, we went kayaking and snorkling which was fun. Some of the kayaking was exhausting, and I was wondering, "WHY did I sign up for this???" But afterwards it felt great to have exercised, and the snorkling was cool. We kayaking once before, but it was on a smooth lake in Alaska. This kayaking was on the rough ocean: a much different story! We did it though -- all 3 miles! This was the first time either of us has snorkled, and it was fun! After that escapade, we ate lunch, napped and relaxed all afternoon, and then Jay's company split us up into groups of about 30 for dinner at various restaurants in San Jose; we ate at a place called El Azahar. Another great day!

Saturday was my 30th birthday!!!!!!! What an awesome way to spend my birthday, right? I had a wonderful day. We ordered breakfast in our room again - yummy! Then we spent the morning at the pool reading, swimming, and drinking. Then we took a cab into the more touristy town of Cabo and had a delicious authentic mexican lunch! We had fish, shrimp, and lobster tacos, chips, guacamole, and salsa... And the BEST part was that a mariachi band came in off the street and they sang happy birthday to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously - best 30th birthday ever. :) After we walked around town a bit, we went back to the resort, did more relaxing/drinking/swimming/reading, and then had one last yummy dinner at the resort - pizza and birthday cake! Happy birthday to me!
